Janice Otness

Jan Otness, 76, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017, peacefully at her home in Great Falls.The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Fairview Baptist Church, 4428 2nd Avenue N., at 11:00 a.m. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Jan was born on February 6, 1940 in Bagley, Minnesota to Glenn Clifford and Helen Ann (Haug) Johnson. She was the 5th of 6 children. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1958. She married Duane Lowell Otness in 1960. They have a daughter, Veronica (Otness) Ronnau and a grandson, Benjamin Thomas Ronnau.Jan was a nursing home administrator at Greensview Nursing Home in Bagley, Minnesota for 30 years. After she and her husband retired, they moved to Great Falls to be close to their daughter and grandson.Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Helen; brothers: Stan and Darvin Johnson; sister, Dolores Clausen; and grandson, Benjamin.She is survived by her husband, Duane; daughter Veronica; sisters Violet Bakken of Hallock, MN and Sharon Larson of Great Falls; and many nieces and nephews.Jan started life with humble beginnings, but created a rich, happy and fulfilled life. She was a blessing to anyone who knew her. She married the love of her life and they enjoyed 56 years together. She gave of her time freely. She was kind and always opened her home to people who needed a meal and a hug or support. She was loving to her family, supportive of her friends and always had a kind word to say about others. Even though she left us too soon, she had a life filled with family, friends, love, travel and her faith. Her greatest accomplishments were being a wife, a mother and grandmother.She was born an ordinary person who lived an extraordinary life. Rest in peace.
