William “Bill” Lyle Greenfield passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 89.
Bill was born on May 13, 1935, and raised in the Hardin area. He was the oldest of 7 children and spent his youth working on ranches, breaking horses, riding in local rodeos, and delivering milk to Big Horn County residents. He graduated from Hardin High School in 1954. He met Helen L. Weinberg at a country dance, and they were married on May 31, 1955. Bill and Helen settled in Billings in 1960 where they raised their 5 children. He worked as a linotype operator for the Billings Gazette before starting his own construction business in the early 1970s. He had a passion for gardening and his love of woodworking created an abundance of furniture, toys, and keepsakes for his family.
He lost Helen in 2009 after 54 years together. In 2016, he moved to Great Falls to be with family.
He is also preceded in death by a grandson, Cole Greenfield; parents, Roy and Jenny Greenfield; as well as brothers, Donald and Jim; and sisters, Judy, Sharon, and Doris.
He is survived by a brother, Tom; his 5 children, Michael (Brenda) Greenfield, Cheryl (Gary Bakken) Lambrecht, Colleen Hastings, Bill (Vadnae) Greenfield, and Carla (Steve) King; 7 grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Case, Luke Greenfield, John “JT” (Carly Hirsch) Lambrecht, Brandon (Madi) Lambrecht, Valerie (Kaleb) Crook, Samantha (Casey) Huffman, and Kevin King; 5 great-grandchildren, Charley and Harry Huffman, Ellie and Mason Lambrecht, and Louis Lambrecht; a nephew, Steve (Tracy and Sydney) Sandon; and many more nieces and nephews.
His long road has led him back to Helen.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Great Falls.
