A life-long Montanan, William “Bill” Garberg slipped from this life on June 11, 2022, in Great Falls. MT. He was born to Arthur B. and Volga B. Garberg on October 21, 1946. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1965 and was involved in many activities during those years making life-long friends. One of the activities was scouting, and along with his brother, Don, achieved the demanding rank of Eagle Scout. Bill attended Eastern Montana College and from there joined the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as a combat engineer in the 101st Airborne Division. While serving, he participated in the Tet Offensive in the Ashaw Valley. Bill’s veteran friends had two nicknames for him: “Bondo Bill” and “Sweet William.” When Bill returned home from the Army, he married and had a son Jason, whom he loved dearly. Giving back was important to Bill. After his service in Vietnam, he became very active in helping veterans. He was a founding member of Veterans Support Group in 1994, the Vets 4 Vets in 2002, and the Stand Down events beginning in 2003. He was a Veterans Treatment Court mentor and volunteered at the Grace Home Homeless Veterans Shelter. Bill dedicated his life to helping veterans and anyone else who needed it. Bill originally worked for Brevig Body Works, and later owned and operated his own automobile body shop. Faith was of great importance to Bill. He was raised in the Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Great Falls, currently serving as President of Men of Faith. At every meeting, they had to sing Bill’s favorite song, “Jesus Loves Me.” He often said, “I have God in one hand, Jesus in the other, everything will be okay!” Bill loved his family, his brother Don (deceased); his two sisters, Garnet (Larry, deceased), and Lola (Len). He especially loved spending time with his son, Jason, motocrossing, and at the family cabin in Neihart. Many happy hours were spent there. His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service for Bill will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
