Willard Charles Schmitt, Jr.

Willard “Bunk” Charles Schmitt, Jr., 76, of Great Falls, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017. “Bunk” was born on November 23, 1940 to Dorothy and Willard Schmitt Sr. in Glen Cove, New York. He served in the United State Air Force for 25 years and spent 20 years in civil service. Bunk also served for 20 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Bunk married Edna Roode in November 1962, and they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on the 24th. He loved boating, fishing, camping and most importantly his life at Holter Lake. Known as “Papa” by his grandchildren, he loved spending time with them and following them in their activities. Bunk is survived by his wife, Edna of Great Falls; daughters Robin (Gene) and Kris (Brad); grandchildren Brooke (Colton) Mall, and Taylor and Will Salonen; mother Jane Schmitt; sister Barbara Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering for friends and family will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Sting.
