Velma Johnson

Velma Jean Johnson, 87, of Great Falls, passed away February 17, 2017, at Peace Hospice, with her family at her side.Velma was born July 29, 1929, in Havre, Montana, the daughter of Walter and Velma Cross. She graduated from Rudyard High School. She began her career with ATT as a switchboard operator in 1959. She retired in the 80s.She was united in marriage to Robert L. Johnson on September 21, 1947, in Missoula, Montana. Robert passed away in November of 2004.She was an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, card games, working on puzzles and socializing with the tenants of Cascade Ridge.She is survived by her sons, Kendall (Linda) Johnson of Rapid City, SD and Brian (Pat) Chester of SD; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Kelly, four sisters and two brothers.Private inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
