Valerie Littlefield

Valerie Anne Smith Littlefield, 75, of Great Falls, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Benefis Hospital.A funeral service will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Valerie was born on June 19, 1942 in Boston, MA to Muriel (Waterman) and Harold Francis Smith of Carlisle, MA where they taught her to love and study nature and its processes. She graduated from Concord High School in 1960 and Massachusetts College of Art in 1964 with a degree in Ceramics.She married Harold W. Sarge Littlefield of Clayton, NY on February 5, 1965 and traveled with him to Cape Cod, MA, Newbough and Syracuse, NY. She lived in Santa Clara, CA when he served in the Philippines. His final Air Force assignment was in Great Falls, where they settled into the community of artists, teachers, and builders and stayed.Valerie created many wonderful drawings, works in clay, jewelry, fiber and photography. She taught as well.She is survived by her husband, Harold; brother Harold (Carolyn) Smith of Fountain Valley, CA; sister Sandra Smith of Great Falls; stepbrother Bill Freund of Penacook, NH; nieces Audrey Smith of Irvine, CA and Constance Smith of Fountain Valley, CA; and many cousins and good friends.Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Dallas Freund Smith; and many loved relatives and friends.
