Tressa Janell Clum Spahr MuDunn passed away to Heaven on November 9, 2024, in Billings, Montana; she was 98 1/2. Janell was born on March 5, 1926, on the family farm in Thornville, Ohio, to parents Frank Irwin Clum and Irene Louise Faller. She was the last descendant of her generation on both sides of her immediate family.
Tressa, or Janell, as she was often referred to, was the third of five siblings, older brothers, Frank Jr. and David and younger siblings Tom and Patsy. The family moved to Columbus, Ohio, when she was a young girl, and she lived there until graduating high school at age 17 in 1943. Janell worked at the family store, tending the candy counter during her youth.
Janell met Captain William Edward Spahr the following spring after graduation at Rickenbacker Army Air Force base in Columbus, Ohio. They were married soon after, on October 20, 1944. The couple honeymooned in Niagara Falls and then moved to Dillon, Montana, where she worked at a JC Penny department store. They moved to Butte, where daughter Kathy Irene was born in 1950, then to Missoula later that year. Janell worked on the switchboard at the University of Montana. The family eventually settled in Great Falls, where daughter Keri Louise was born in 1957. Janell was vice president of the Deaconess Hospital Guild and Grand Matron of the Eastern Star Olive Chapter. William Spahr passed away on February 2, 2020.
Janell married Roy Joseph McDunn on February 14, 1980, and they had 35 loving, beautiful years together. Roy affectionately called her "Janie," as her dear friends and grandchildren referred to her. Janell and Roy remained in Great Falls until 2014, when they moved to Billings to be close to Keri and her family. Roy J. McDunn passed away on March 31, 2015.
Janell showered her affection on family and friends. She adored babies and children of all ages and always had a hug and kind words for strangers. She had a cheeky smile, which often appeared during family games of pinochle, hearts, and cribbage, while working on a puzzle, or while rocking one of the baby dolls she collected. Janie loved sewing and cooking family feasts and desserts - family favorites were her butter horns, cinnamon rolls, butterscotch, cherry and rival pies, angel food cake, almond roca, peanut brittle, and her special homemade cinnamon applesauce. She kept full candy dishes all over the house. Janie made sure the freezer was always stocked with ice cream treats - her favorite nutty buddies and her special frozen daiquiris for the grownups.
Janell had a beautiful voice with a near-perfect pitch. She was the lead soprano in the choir at the Presbyterian and Catholic churches she attended. Greatly loved by her family and friends, Janell left her gentle, loving touch on everyone in her life. The words "My arms are around you" were often spoken over those she so loved.
Tressa Janell is survived by her immediate family, Kathy Irene Whitmore (Barry) and grandchildren Lindsay Vint (Arthur), great-grandchildren Henry and Irene and grandson Eric Palmer; Keri Louise Spahr-Langford (David) and granddaughter Kendra Shaw (Johnathan), great-granddaughters Freya and Violet, granddaughter Jazlyn Chambers (Glynn), great-grandchildren Milo, Louie, and Daphne, grandson Aaron Langford, granddaughter Tressa Langford, and grandson Jared Langford.
Roy's family line, whom she loved, includes Barb McDunn (deceased), granddaughter Wendy McDunn, daughter Roxanne Hartman (Don), grandchildren Scott Hartman, Tim Hartman (Carrie), Tammony Yarber, Wendy Paxton (Frank), and Cory Crawford (Patrick); daughter Ruan Friedrick (John) grandsons Zach Friedrick (Paola) and Joel Friedrick (Momoko); daughter Rashel Richard (Dale), grandson Matt Richard (Leslie), granddaughter Carla Jarvis (David), as well as many other grand and great-grandchildren.
