Stanley Earl Cook, 73, of Great Falls, a retired USDA Soil Conservation Service engineer, died of cancer October 13, 2011 at his home, the One Horse Ranch, in Great Falls, Montana. The family will hold private services for scattering his ashes at his One Horse Ranch in Great Falls and at Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho at a later date. Schnider Funeral Home of Great Falls is handling arrangements.A devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Kimberly Cook, of Great Falls; his three sons, Gerry of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jeffrey of Cross Roads, Texas, and Eric of Great Falls, Montana; a sister, Maxine Dykman of Harrison, Montana; brothers Alfred of Helena, Montana, Doug of Butte, Montana, and Keith, Florida; and two grandchildren, Aidan and Zachary, of Cross Roads, Texas.Stan graduated from Montana State University-Bozeman with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1963. After graduation, he began working for the USDA Soil Conservation Service. He was promoted to various positions up to State Conservation Engineer in New Mexico. He retired in 1995. Stan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed shooting skeet. Stan collected early Ford V-8 automobiles. He restored numerous cars and enjoyed showing his work at car shows and cruise-in's with his family and friends.Stan is preceded in death by his first wife, La Verne who passed away in 2004; sisters Hazel, Helen, Alice and Beryl; and brothers George and Chuck.All, whose lives were touched and enriched by Stanley's friendship are encouraged to donate generously in Stanley's name to Peace Hospice of Montana, 1101 26th St. S., Great Falls, MT 59405.
