Shizu Wunderlich passed away at the the age of 87 on Monday, November 20, 2017. Per her request, no services are being planned. Kay was born in Kobe, Japan on October 24, 1930 to Ouoka and Thailo Arase. Her mother died when she was three years old and she and her sister were raised by their grandmother. Her family lost their silk factory during World War II. She attended six years of elementary and two years of high school, graduating in 1948. She became a seamstress. While sewing badges on his uniform she met her loving husband, Burt. They were married in a Japanese ceremony in 1955 and an in an American ceremony in 1957. They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 1992. In 1964, she became an American citizen in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They were stationed at several air bases until Burt retired and went to work at Malmstrom Air Force Base as a civilian mechanic. She loved to crochet, knit, oil paint, sew, and garden. She was a friendly, kind and gracious person who had many friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a little gift for you. Kay is survived by her sister Akiko Yoshioka and her husband and their daughter, Shima. They reside in Japan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burt.
