Shirley Mae Gue (Teichrow)

July 21, 1936 — April 13, 2021

Shirley Mae Gue (Teichrow) passed away peacefully at age 84 on April 13th, 2021 in Spokane, WA. She fought a good fight against kidney cancer for 14 years with the wonderful support of Sletten Cancer Center and its doctors until she moved to Post Falls, ID in April 2020 to be closer to the family she loved so much. Shirley was born on July 21st, 1936 in Glasgow, MT to Orville and Georgia Teichrow. She was raised in Glasgow and Great Falls and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1955. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Gue, while in high school. They were married on September 8th, 1956 and shared 51 joyful years together before Kenneth’s tragic death in 2008. They had 3 children: daughter Wanda, son Brian, and daughter Tera. Shirley was an independent and enterprising woman. After working several years for Village Bank, she opened a series of 4 stores in Westgate Mall: Mode O’Day, Country Store Fashions, Kids Country, and Country Store Gifts. She later managed the Fox Hollow Inn and Crestview Inn for many years. Shirley loved to decorate her home for Christmas which was always a joy to see and a source of amazement for those passing by – sometimes she left the lights up all year long. She volunteered for the Great Falls Ad Club and the CMR Art Auction as well as numerous church events. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church since 1950. She loved spending time – often entire summers – at Templed Hills Baptist Camp in Paradise Valley where she was a beloved cook, a capable manager, and director of many youth camps. She made lifelong friends while working there and attending Music, Women’s, and Cards & Gamers camps for many years. Shirley loved nothing more than being around her family, and she is dearly missed. She is survived by daughters Wanda Wonsick (Bill) of Hope, ID and Tera Caldera (Sam) of Spokane, WA; sisters Darlene Duncan of Spokane, WA and LeIsla Crocker (Jack) of Coeur d’Alene, ID; and brother Terry Teichrow (Anita) of Whitefish, MT. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren: Justin Wonsick (Jayme), Brittany Paulus (Jeff), Lindsey Case (Bryan), Jonathan Caldera, Nicolas Caldera, and Brian Caldera, and 7 great-grandchildren: Alexander, Addison, Kenny, Karson, Ethan, Emma, and Maci. She also shared her love with numerous nieces and nephews and brothers-/sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 2008, son Brian in 1965, and her parents Orville and Georgia Teichrow. Shirley chose cremation and her ashes will be buried next to her husband in Manchester Cemetery in Great Falls. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on June 26th, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Great Falls (525 2nd Ave. N.). Memorials in Shirley’s name will be directed to Templed Hills Baptist Camp. Please send memorial gifts to Wanda Wonsick at 1147 Redfir Road, Hope, ID 83836.
