Shawn Gilbert, 45, of Great Falls, surrounded by his family lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, January 12, 2017.A celebration of life will take place later on in the spring. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the cremation.Shawn was a happy go lucky person and always had a smile on his face. He was always willing to help wherever he was needed.He was born to Pattie and John Gilbert November 17, 1971 in Fort Belknap, Montana. He graduated from Chinook High School in 1990. Shawn was the first grandson and the first nephew to numerous family members.He worked for Buttreys, Albertsons and was a Town Pump manager in Butte, MT. For the past 16 years, Shawn worked for the family business, Silver Wolf Enterprises. When he was diagnosed with his illness he was the CEO of the business. He was a dedicated seated tribal councilman for the Little Shell Tribe hoping to see federal recognition became a reality.In his younger years he loved to snowmobile, go four wheeling, and hunting with his family. He enjoyed reloading his own ammunition and target practice with his pistols.Shawn loved his faithful companion and friend Ernestine Belcourt. He loved to go to the Bear Paws and spend peaceful times, especially, a big bon fire at Beaver Creek Park with his family.He was survived by his parents; wife Ernestine; grandmother Beatrice Pronto; brothers Jason (Emily) and their girls, Randy (Nikki) and his family; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
