Sharon Kay (Sutherland) Horner

March 18, 1945 — January 23, 2019

Sharon K. (Sutherland) Horner, 73, of Great Falls, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She was born on March 18, 1945 in Great Falls to Ross and Margaret (Coleman) Sutherland. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1963 and went on to work as a bookkeeper and in retail sales. Sharon grew up on the west side of Great Falls where she made many life-long friends. Sharon met the love of her life, Joe Horner. They eloped to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho after a short courtship and then started a family in Great Falls. Sharon and Joe began their own construction business and worked together for more than forty years. Sharon had the gift of gab which came in handy when she worked at Herbergers Department Store as a top sales person for the Liz Claiborne department where she made many friends and continued to stay close to them to this day. Once retired, she enjoyed spending time traveling south for the winter and taking care of everyone in her family. Most of all, Sharon cherished her great, big family. She loved watching her kids and grandkids play all sports, especially the University of Montana Grizzlies football. She loved being together for family gatherings at her home and at the cabin in Lincoln. Her family affectionately named her “Parties Are Us,” because she was always scheming a way to get them all together. She loved teaching her girls how to make halushki, a traditional family dish. We will miss you Gramma Shay Shay. Sharon is survived by her husband, Joseph Horner Sr., mother-in-law Virginia Horner; daughter Brenda Horner (John) Vehrs; son Joseph (Glenda) Horner Jr.; sister Peggy (Larry) Johnson; brothers-in-law Joe Williamson, Mike (Patty) Horner, David (Kelly) Horner, and Stewart (Krista) Horner; 8 grandchildren, Joey Ross (Britney Sharde) Horner, Paige (Ray Morgan) Held, Madison (Greyson) Pasco, Josh (Nora Klick) Horner, Sadie (Shandon Bilbrey) Held, Tayler (Tyler Waite) Held, Grant Hudspeth, and Jacob Horner; 4 great-grandchildren Eleyna Grace, Claire Rae, Kohlyton, and Brycie Charlie; 5 nephews Michael Jamal (Kim Blevins)Horner, Larry (Alice Schultz) Johnson Jr., David Horner Jr., Matt (Katie) Horner, and Sam (Heidi) Williamson.
