Ruby J Kvarness Strom

d. August 16, 2022

Ruby was a gem. If you knew her, you loved her. Born on a farm near DeLamere, ND, growing up during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl of the Dirty 30’s shaped the way she lived her life: You don’t waste anything! She reused, repurposed, recycled, composted, or gave it away because “someone could use it”.

Ruby worked for Western Union in San Francisco, L.A. and Minneapolis, where she met and married Sylvester “Slivers” Strom, her life and dance partner for 56 years. Slivers’ job with MDU moved them to Baker and Miles City, where he eventually became fire chief and she worked for the State Liquor Store until retiring.

She was so young at heart and always ready to experience most anything. She had a knee replacement at 98, hoping to eventually dance at the VFW again. She texted on her iPhone, cooked, took pride in her flowers, followed politics, enjoyed a martini. She loved lutefisk and lefse and was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She’s what any woman would aspire to be. She looked forward to visits with special nieces Sheri and Ardie and nephew Terry, who always included her in so many things.

Among those missing her every day are her children LeeAnna (John) Looye, Connie Heiman and John Strom, grandchildren Lindsay (Mike) Bicsak, Kristin Heiman, Nick Babcock and Alex Strom, great grandsons Caden, Caleb and Carter Bicsak.

Should anyone desire, memorials to the Custer County Food Bank would make her happy (16 N. 8th St. Miles City, MT 59301).
