Royal Henry Kress, 87, of Great Falls, a Navy Veteran, died Friday, September 14, 2012 of cancer at Peace Hospice. As he requested, no services will be held. A private family service will be held later. Cremation will take place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home. Royal was born on a farm outside of Fortuna, ND. He entered the Navy in June 1943 and served on the USS Langley for the full term of his service and participated in nine battles, including Saipan, Guam, the Philippines, and Okinawa. Upon discharge, Royal returned to Ambrose, ND where he attended school for a year and thenwent to work in Havre, MT constructing REA lines. He joined Montana Power Co. as a lineman in 1952 and retired in 1987 after 35 years of working for them. Royal enjoyed his coffee times with Darryl, Sam and Don, and also visits with Richard and Bill and other family friends. He was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene of Great Falls; son, Dixon of Great Falls; daughter, Anita of Great Falls; sisters Pearl Lunde of Great Falls and Delila Scheff of Sidney, MT; brothers Leonard Kress of Walla Walla, WA, Russell and Archie Kress of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
