Robert Bob J. Herman, 90, of Choteau, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Benefis Hospital.A celebration of Bobs life will be held at a later date.Bob enlisted into the Navy on May 10, 1943 and turned 21 years old in the Solomon Islands. During WW II he served his country as a radar man in the battle of Guadalcanal and received a Victory Medal. After the Navy he was a certified auto mechanic in Los Angeles for the largest General Motors dealer in the United States. He moved to Bremerton, Washington where he started his career as a firefighter at the Keyport Banger Naval Submarine Base. While in Bremerton he met and married Mary Erickson on December 9, 1969. They retired to Augusta and were active members of the American Legion and helped with the annual Augusta Rodeo. Bob and Mary were married 33 years at the time of her death in June of 2002. Bob continued to live in Augusta until November 2013, when he moved to Skyline Lodge in Choteau.He is survived by his only daughter, Judy Decker and her husband Bob of Welches, OR; stepson Mike Jones of Augusta; sister Myrtis Pace of Vancouver, WA; and brother Maurice Heberer of Battle Ground, WA.Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mary; sister Darlene; and brother Darrell.A special thank you to Skyline Lodge and Teton Medical Center in Choteau, and Benefis Medical Center in Great Falls for all your support and excellent care of my father.
