Robert Fry, 73, of Great Falls passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at his home with family by his side.A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.Robert Fry was born May 18, 1942 in Kalispell, Montana to Rose (Obach) and Robert H. Fry. Bob graduated from Central Catholic High School in Helena, in 1960. Bob attended and graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana in the spring of 1965. That same year he secured a social work position in Wallace, Idaho. In the fall of 1969 until the spring of 1971, Bob attended Portland State University and earned a Masters of Social Work degree (MSW). Bob was hired as a psychiatric social worker with Central Montana Mental Health in the fall of 1971. He worked as a social worker for 37 years in different capacities. He showed great empathy towards his patients. One of his greatest strengths was his generosity to all. Also, his sense of humor was outstanding and was sometimes wry with charmingly sarcastic undertones.Bob had many interesting hobbies. He was always an avid reader. Many times he would read three or four books a week. He was never without a book. His crafts also occupied much of his time. Whether he was making toys for his children or making earrings for the secretaries at work. He kept busy with his myriad of crafts. His interests varied from making walking sticks to toy fishing poles with magnetic fish. He also had a kite collection, he had some favorite small ones that he carried with him and sometimes flew them on his walks at lunch time. His interests were many and he was always giving the finished products away which was an exciting thing about his hobbies.He is survived by his wife, Mary of 38 years; son John, and his two daughters, Sarah and Anna. Bob has a sister Susan McMillin in Virginia and countless people whose lives he touched.Bob Fry will be missed.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Strings and Things at 713 9th Ave SW, Great Falls, MT., a non-profit organization for individuals or organizations in need of instruments or to the charity of the donors choice.
