Richard L. Shannon, 79, lifelong resident of Great Falls was escorted by the Angels to his Heavenly Home on July 1, 2016 at a local hospital with his family by his side.The funeral liturgy will be Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Richard was born to Lucille and Leo Shannon on Dec. 28, 1936 in Great Falls, Montana. He went to local schools, graduating from Big High in 1955. He married Rose Marie Thompson in 1963 and they had three children, Rick, Renae and Ron. Richard retired from the Montana Air National Guard after 20 years of service in 1975, and U.S. West Telephone in 1994, after almost 40 years with Ma Bell.Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose; children Rick, Renae (Ron) Munson, and Ron; grandson Matt Whidden; sister Darlene Stack; and brother Donald Shannon.Richard was preceded in death by his father in 1939; mother in 1975; and brother Leonard in 1993.Richard was an honest, hardworking, self-taught man, who could do anything he set his mind to do. He loved to hunt, fish, and work with his hands. He could fix anything.Above all else, he was a family man who always put his family first, and cared deeply for his wife, children, and grandson. That's what his family will remember and miss the most.Rest in peace my love.
