Richard Rick James Scollin, 61, of Great Falls, Montana passed away on Tuesday, December 16th at Benefis Hospital with his family at his side.Rick was born November 9, 1953, in Lynn, Massachusetts, to the late Harriet Brennan and Richard Leo Scollin. After his 1972 graduation from Lynnfield High School, Rick moved to Maine where he lived and worked until his enlistment in the United States Air Force in 1975. Rick served on active duty through 1979, stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base. He continued to reside in Great Falls after separating from the Air Force and eventually joined the civil service at Malmstrom in 1985 on the Rivet MILE project. He has remained employed in service to his country on the project until his passing.He is survived by his two sons, Jesse Dane Scollin, 31, of Missoula and Andrew (Katie) James Scollin, 28, of Great Falls; grandson, Finley Richard Scollin, who was born December 14, 2014; his former spouse, Darla Heath Scollin, of Helena, 3 sisters, Kathy (Jim) Sullivan, Mary (Eric)Berger, their 2 children Jessica Walker and Philip Berger; and Anne (Mike) Yap, their 3 children Matthew, Sean and Meghan; Rick's significant other, Rebecca Clough, of Salt Lake City, UT; numerous close friends from the Air Force, the civil service, and the local Great Falls community mourn his passing; Rick's many other sons, who grew up spending numerous hours at the Scollin household with Jesse and Andrew during their childhood and young adult years, can also be counted among those surviving Rick.Rick loved the Northwest U.S., especially Montana, and he loved Maine; the outdoors, and cooking. He was always feeding his friends, family, and co-workers. Famous for his pulled pork, one of the many delicious dishes he frequently shared.His family and friends always knew if they ever needed anything, all they had to do was ask. Rick never had a problem expressing his opinion; he was well known as a straight shooter.Rick's family would like to take the opportunity to thank all the family and friends for their support, as well as the medical and nursing staff on the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at Benefis Hospital for the care they rendered to Rick, and the dignity and respect afforded his family and friends during his final days. Special gratitude is extended to Dr. Delinda Wills and Nurse Brock.A private committal ceremony honoring Rick's life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
