Richard C. Mitchell, 86, passed away peacefully February 19, 2016.Richard was born August 15, 1929 to Vivian C. and Essie H. Mitchell on the family ranch near Landusky, Montana in the log cabin his father built. He was the youngest of four. Richard attended school in Landusky and graduated from Malta High School. He met Betty Lou La Born in Landusky and they were married October 14, 1950. Richard served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the army, he and Betty settled in Great Falls. Richard was branch manager for Midland Implement until they closed the Great Falls branch. He retired from Great Falls Transit.Richard was a friend to all and was loved by all. He loved working in his yard and being outdoors.Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughters Wendy (Edward) Gierke of Conrad, Debra (Ron) Unrue and Vickie (Douglas) Herd of Great Falls; grandchildren Annika (Brian) Stepek, Reggie (Kari) Gierke, Heather Unrue, Holly Unrue, Nick Herd, Rachael Herd and Lindsey Herd; three great grandchildren Kallie Stepek, Kylie and Braelynn Gierke; brother Winston (Lucille) Mitchell of Landusky; sisters Kathryn and the late Robert Barrett and Faye (Kenneth) Moss of Great Falls; numerous nephews and nieces.A private family memorial service with interment at Hillcrest Mausoleum will be held.A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Benefis Memory Care.
