Richard “Dick” Otto McAdams, 82, of Simms, Montana, was called home by his Heavenly Father May 7, 2019, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, due to complications from a stroke suffered two years earlier. Dick was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Leonard and Flora McAdams on August 25, 1936. He came to Montana as a child. He was married to Barbara Wiegand on July 15, 1960, in Fort Benton. During his years at Simms High School, Dick excelled in sports, where he was a long-distance runner and played football and basketball. He held the title for the mile run at State in 1955.He attended The College of Great Falls and Rocky Mountain College in Billings. As a high school student, he joined the Montana Air National Guard, which began an illustrious career, ultimately giving him a top security rank as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist. In 1966, Dick followed his passion for farming by beginning a custom-farming business. He did custom work all around the state of Montana. In 1985, Dick took a summer construction job in Alaska, and he and his family ended up staying for two years. This job took them to Washington State for two more years, followed by another construction job in Maine for 4 years. In 1992, they moved back to their home in Simms and started a herd of Black Angus cattle. When Dick turned 60, he began another career as a crane operator which took him all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Eventually, retirement took Dick and his wife to Arizona for the winters and home during the summer months where Dick continued his passion for farming. He was also in high demand for helping his friends and neighbors keep their farming equipment in working order. Dick retired with the same enthusiasm and gusto he put into every other venture in his life. He played as hard as he worked. First and foremost in his life was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which began in his teen years. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; his daughter, Kelley McAdams, son, Richard (Terri) McAdams; grandson, Ryan John Van Tine; sisters, Glenda Sue Hanna, Lynda Sulenes, and Hali (Dick) Fleming.
