Remuldo "Eddie" Faccenda

February 28, 1923 — February 1, 2015

Remuldo Michael Eddie Faccenda, 91, of Great Falls, passed away February 1, 2015. He was born February 28, 1923 in San Angelo a Fasanella, Salerno, Italy to Carmine and Filomena De Lucia Faccenda. With his parents and older sister he immigrated to Pittsburgh where his grandparents and uncle lived and later moved to Brooklyn, NY. He attended Bushwick High School where he played baseball and formed many friendships that lasted throughout his life. He joined the Marine Corps in early 1943 and after basic training in Quantico, VA was stationed at Camp Pendleton near San Diego where he met his future wife, Eleanor Gordon from Cut Bank, MT. They were married in Los Angeles before he was assigned to Camp Tarawa with the Fifth Marine Division, the Spearhead. On February 19, 1945, the 5th assaulted the Japanese held island of Iwo Jima, which became a monumental battle in Marine Corps history. Later he participated in the Occupation of Japan following Japans unconditional surrender in August of 1945. After his discharge in 1946, he and Eleanor lived briefly in Cut Bank before making Great Falls their home. There he joined the Rice Motors family where he worked as a mechanic, service manager and salesman for 46 years. Eddie was a kind and caring man, a friend to many and was always there for his family. He will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor; mother and father; older sister Ann (Jim) Di Gregorio; brothers Joe and Ross; and sister-in-law Marion Faccenda. Eddie is survived by his son, Philip and daughter-in-law Lynn Faccenda; his little sister Lee and husband Lou Innamorato; sister-in-law Mary Faccenda; many nieces and nephews; and his grandson, Michael Robert Faccenda, who was his greatest joy. There will be a graveside service at Highland Cemetery with Father Oliver Doyle presiding with military honors at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marine Corps League of Great Falls, Eagle Mount, PO Box 2983, Great Falls, MT 59403, or St Anns Cathedral, 715 3rd Ave. N., Great Falls, MT 59401.
