Paul Edward Matteucci, 79, of Great Falls, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at OConnor Funeral Home followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at OConnor Memorial Chapel, both on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. The funeral liturgy will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anns Cathedral with burial to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.Ed is a native of Great Falls. He was born on June 28, 1937 to Paul and Jane (Johnston) Matteucci. He attended Great Falls High School and graduated from Gonzaga High School in Spokane, Washington. He attended the University of Montana, College of Great Falls, and Michigan State University.He had been working on a part-time basis while attending school. He joined the family business, Matteuccis Super Save Markets on a full time basis in 1959. He managed several of the company stores and in 1960, was elected to the Board of Directors and appointed Secretary-Treasurer. The company operated both grocery and drug stores until they sold the grocery stores in 1967. Ed was named President of Matteuccis Super Save Drugs in 1971, a position he held until January 1, 1990. The company had changed its name to Drug Fair Northwest and was operating stores in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Washington. On January 1, 1990 he assumed the Presidency of Affiliated/Associated Drug Stores. In January of 1991, he started a new business called Profit Services Association.In 1963, he married Roberta Joie Hutton and they had one child, Paul A. Matteucci. They divorced in 1966. In 1976, he married Peggy Walla Rothermel and together they raised three children, Sandra, Jeff, and Paul. Ed and Peggy enjoyed many years of travel both for pleasure and business.Ed has served on the following boards, Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way, First Interstate Bank, Fortnightly, Meadow Lark Country Club, Northern Division of the United States Ski Association, University of Montana School of Business, University of Great Falls, and Grizzly Riders International. Other past involvements include, Chairman of Affiliated Drug Stores Inc., 3M Drug Trade Advisory Board, chairman of McKesson Drug Co., Small Chain Advisory Board, chairman of the NACDS Small Chain Conference, president of the Great Falls Quarterbacks Club, president of the Great Falls Ski Club, chairman of the Military Affairs Committee, chairman of the University of Great Falls Development Committee, and chairman of the Great Falls International Airport Authority. He has also served on committees of the Rotary Club, Elks Club, YMCA, and is a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children Sandra (Brett) Haverlandt, Paul Matteucci, and Jeff Walla; four grandchildren, Jerrod and Katie Walla of Houston, TX and Kendall and Kade Haverlandt of Great Falls; brothers Bill (Sandee) Matteucci and Bob (Gary Hansen) Matteucci; two nephews, Cody and Cory; and cousin Jimmy Matteucci.Ed was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Terry; and ex-wife Joie Hutton Hodges.Memorials in Eds name may be made to Sletten Cancer Institute, 1117 29th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405; Eagle Mount, PO Box 2983, Great Falls, MT 59403; or Grizzly Riders International, PO Box 3176, Missoula, MT 59806.
