Norma Hough

Norma Hough, a long-time resident of the Denver area, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, MT at the age of 97. The funeral service and internment will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery in Thornton, CO.Norma was born on a farm outside of Denver, CO on November 10, 1919 to Henry and Helena Reiber, the fourth of five children. She graduated from West High School in 1937. While in high school, she was a straight A student and played clarinet in the band and orchestra. After high school, she worked at a fishing supply company and as a telephone operator, switchboard operator, and bookkeeper at various businesses in Denver.She married Harry Betz in 1944 and had a daughter, Cindy, from that marriage. They divorced in 1949. She married William (Bill) Hough in 1953, and they had 43 years together until his death in 1996.Norma's faith was extremely important to her, and she was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in the church women's group and other committees, and was selected as president of the Lutheran Women of Denver. She was chosen to attend the Triennial Convention of combined women's groups in Chicago - an accomplishment of which she was very proud.In her later years, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing and traveling the country in their trailer RV. They lived for three years in Wenatchee, WA. Following her husbands death in 1996, she moved back to Denver and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her church community. In 2012, she moved to Great Falls to be closer to her daughter. She resided for nearly five years at The Lodge where she received excellent care and made many new friends. Park Place Health Care Center and Peace Hospice were also instrumental in providing care and comfort in her last years.She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Addison (Brice) of Great Falls; sister Virginia Glendinning of Westminster, CO; granddaughters Stacey Hancock and Karin Buer (Adam) and step-grandchildren, Erin, Kara, and Conrad Addison (Lauren) all from Great Falls; as well as several nieces of Denver.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents Henry and Helena Reiber; and siblings Ruby, Wilfred, and Reinhart.To send flowers or to donate to the American Cancer Society, please visit www.olingerhighland.com or call 303-451-6674.
