Nancy Hawkins Semenza

Nancy Hawkins Semenza, 82, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, at Benefis Peace Hospice in Great Falls. She was born to Nancy Pilson Hawkins in New York City, NY, in 1941 to Arthur and Nancy Hawkins, and she grew up in Leonia, NJ.

Nancy pursued a higher education in Montana and embarked on a life filled with new experiences. She embraced both joy and challenges, marked by her resilience and commitment to making a positive impact on her life and the lives of those around her.

Having lived in Valier, Denton, Great Falls, Dutton, Power and Choteau, Nancy grew to be a genuine Montanan. Her positions as a teacher, licensed addition counselor, City of Choteau Ward 2 Councilwoman, and Headstart manager showcased her dedication to education and meaningful service. Nancy was a fervent advocate for 12-step programs and volunteered in hospice care, providing encouragement, comfort, and support.

Nancy lived a spirited life full of happiness with many interests. Family, friends, and the support of the community were her foundational passions. She also found great joy in the companionship of her dogs. She enjoyed games, especially bridge, and immersed herself in stories of mystery, adventure, and fantasy. Cooking fun, tasty, and creative dishes was another strong affinity and Nancy’s way of bringing loved ones together to make every occasion special. Her life was otherwise fulfilled with exciting adventures, travel to exotic places, and meeting new people.  Nancy positively touched the lives of so many and created binding memories along the way.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nancy Hawkins; brother, Art Hawkins; and sister, Bland Palmore. She is survived by her brother, Gilbert Hawkins; children, Belinda Field and Ralph (Donna) Field; grandchildren, Heather (Joel) Crain, Christopher (Cristina) Fleming, Ashley (Carson) Zednick, and Logan Field; as well as her great-grandchildren, Rilyn Zednick, Parker Zednick, and Taylor Crain.

Nancy Hawkins Semenza will be remembered for her enduring spirit, her contributions to the well-being of others, her smile that would light up the room, and the warmth she brought to the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will be cherished by her family and friends.
