Mildred M. (Stoughton) Stafne, 96, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Peace Hospice.Visitation will be held at Schnider Funeral Home on Friday September 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to the vigil which will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 10 a.m. with Father Dick Schlosser presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mildred was born in Watford City, North Dakota to William and Mary (Letcher) Stoughton on March 5, 1915. She was married December 26, 1939 in Watford City, ND to Reynold Stafne. He passed away October 1995.Mildred taught elementary school in North Dakota and was a charter teacher at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School. After receiving her masters degree in Special Education she taught at Montana State School for the Deaf and Blind until her retirement in 1977.Mildred and Reynold belonged to the Wally Byam Airstream group and wintered in Arizona. She was a charter member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a member of Legion of Mary, Alter Society, and Retired Teachers Association.Survivors include a son, Michael Stafne of Great Falls; daughters Yvette Zimdars and husband Richard of Beach, ND, Myrna Reinhart and Marlys Creasman both of Great Falls; a sister Winifred Dewhirst of Dickinson, ND; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with #15 due in December. She was preceded in death by her husband Reynold Stafne; one brother; two sisters; her parents; and nieces and nephews.Memorials are suggested to Holy Spirit Building Fund, 201 44th St. S.
