Mary Alice "Map" Smith passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023, in Great Falls, Montana. Map was born in Anaconda, Montana to Joseph Lowen Pearson and Mary Ann (Corrigan) Pearson on November 5, 1926. Map was the youngest of the family of two joining her big brother, Jim Pearson who always took care of his little "Sis.”

Map attended school in Anaconda and graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1944. After high school, Map worked at the Montana Hotel in Anaconda as a waitress. Many fun stories were told by Map while working there. Map learned a lot about cooking while working at the Montana Hotel and her children continue to make some of those recipes today.

Map married Robert Edward Monahan in 1948 and from this marriage two sons were born, Pat and Bob Monahan. Robert passed away suddenly and Map later married Donald Smith in 1955. Peggy, Don, and Lori were born from this marriage and joined their brothers, Pat and Bob.

Map was a stay-at-home mom until the mid-1970s. Map then decided to join the workforce and began working for the Anaconda Water Company. Map loved her job. She especially loved visiting with everyone who came into the office. Map was definitely a people person and loved getting to know everyone in town. After Map retired from the Water Company, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Map loved working in the yard. Her home was always surrounded by beautiful flowers, and she loved to decorate and re-decorate her home. Map loved visiting with her neighbors and especially cherished her friendships with Kay and Mike Johns, Jack Corrigan, and Julie Beattie.

Map was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jim Pearson; and her son, Pat Monahan. Map is survived by her children, Bob (Mary) Monahan Peggy (John) Paull, Don Smith, and Lori (Curtis) Hester; grandchildren, Julie (Rocky) Johnson, Gina Monahan, Erin (Chris) Zbitnoff, Kelli (Mike McCarthy) Paull, Megan Monahan, Patrick (Amanda) Monahan, Maura Monahan, Caitlyn Hester, Allison Monahan, and Madison (Jake Amo) Hester; great-grandchildren, Madeline, McKenzie and Maxwell Monahan and Luka and Clay Zbitnoff.

The family would like to thank the Grandview for the excellent care Map received.

Map was loved by all who knew her. Her children and grandchildren were so fortunate to have had her in their lives. Map's life spanned 96 years. Heaven gained one of the best.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local food bank or the Anaconda Catholic Community in memory of Map.

A celebration of Map's life will be held at Holy Family Church, (217 W. Pennsylvania Avenue in Anaconda, Montana) on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A private interment of ashes will be held at a later time.
