Mary Jane Higgins

Mary J. Higgins, 71, of Great Falls, died on Monday, January 13, 2014 from complications of diabetes at the Golden Eagle Assisted Living Facility. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.Mary was born June 28, 1942 in Barnesville, Minnesota to Wilham John Martens and Dagmar Alice Jorgenson. In 1961, Mary met and married Francis John Higgins in Great Falls, Montana.Mary was employed as a waitress at Eddies Supper Club for over thirty years. Her great joy in life was to serve her many returning customers.She worked very hard to raise five children as a single parent after her husband died in 1981. She loved to spend time with her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.She is survived by her daughter Kathryn (Mike) Hanning of Great Falls; sons Timothy (Rachel) Higgins of Missoula, Patrick (Rebecca) Higgins of Auburn, Alabama, and John Higgins of Portland, Oregon; brother Walt (Marion) Martens of North Carolina; sister Donna Dickenson of Minnesota; and sister-in-law Pat Swenson of Great Falls.The family would like to share a special thank you to the beautiful nursing staff at the Golden Eagle Assisted Living. Their compassion and care for our mother was truly the work of angels on earth.
