Mary Theresa Osterman Boettcher

August 24, 1937 — February 23, 2022

Mary Theresa (Osterman) Boettcher, 84 years old, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022, at Peace Hospice surrounded by her husband and three remaining children. Mary was able to remain at home until the very end of her life due to the great love and care she received from her husband. Mary was born on August 24, 1937, in Great Falls, MT to Herman and Mary Osterman. She was the 7th of 9 children and was raised on a dairy farm in Monarch, MT. She attended lower grades in Monarch and graduated from Neihart High School. Mary went on to graduate college from Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, MT. On August 9, 1958, she married her childhood sweetheart, John “Jack” Boettcher. They made their home in Great Falls where they raised 6 kids. Together they owned and operated Super Dip, the local ice cream shop and convenience store. Mary practiced her nursing skills at the original Columbus Hospital and as a phlebotomist at the Great Falls Clinic. She was able to work all the while trying to keep 6 children in line, attending all their band and sporting events, volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, cooking big meals daily, and keeping the house clean. The family spent summers fishing, camping, and water skiing. Mary and John moved to Fort Peck, MT in 1988 where mom worked at the Glasgow Clinic. Realizing they were too far away from their kids and grandkids, they moved to Shelby, MT in 1993. While living there, they traveled to Alaska and spent winters in Arizona. Mary worked at Marias Medical Center and the Cinderella Shop. They moved back home to Great Falls in 2014 due to Mary's declining health and to live the condo lifestyle. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Rod Boettcher, Vicki Goodwin, and Marti Hunt of Great Falls; daughters-in-law, Jill Boettcher and Ella Rae (Todd) Anderson; grandchildren, Mark (Kristen) Lehner, Chris (Natalie) Lehner, Jake Lehner, Kate (Matt) Blakeslee, Brad (Ella) Boettcher, Holly Boettcher, Zach (Amber) Boettcher, Rachael (Sean) Ortiz, Will Goodwin, Natalie Goodwin, Seth Goodwin, Tanner (Baylee) Hunt, Logan Hunt, Jordon Hunt, and Jenna Hunt; great-grandkids, Konrad, Anders, Margo, Sierra, Aiden, Nolan, Avery, Abrianna, and Bastian. Also surviving are siblings, Dave (Louise) Osterman and Bernice (Cary) Breeden; sisters-in-law, Arlene Osterman, Shirley Boettcher, and Ann Boettcher; brother-in-law, Bob Nebel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her children, Jacquie Lehner and Randy and Greg Boettcher; sons-in-law, Brian Lehner and Todd Hunt; grandson, Matt Boettcher; and her all-time favorite friend "Captain." Also preceding her were her parents, Herman and Mary0 Osterman; siblings, Helen (JB) Thorsen, Margaret (Leonard) Griffin, Walt Osterman, Bud (Joan) Osterman, Tom (JoAnn) Osterman, and Louis Osterman; John's parents, Walter and Mary Boettcher; and in-laws, Donald and Larry Boettcher, Dorothy Nebel, Helen (Joe) Aline and Thelma Boettcher. There are no services planned at this time. The family will be celebrating Mary's life at a later date and will notify people of the event. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to boystown.org, a favorite of Mary's, Peace Hospice, or any organization of your choice.
