Martin Oliver Johnson

Martin “Marty” Oliver Johnson, 67, of Great Falls, passed away November 30, 2017 at a local care facility. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1009 18th Ave SW. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Marty was born on October 30, 1950 in Napoleon, North Dakota to Oliver G. and Paula E. Johnson. They soon moved to Corvallis, Montana where Marty completed grades 1 through 12 there. He went on to attend Flathead Valley Community College.He enlisted in the Air Force and later service for the Air National Guard. He received the Meritorious Service Medal in the Air Force. In Marty’s later years, he was a postal carrier. He loved his postal patrons. He belonged to Bethel Lutheran Church here in Great Falls. He also played in many pool leagues and loved watching football especially the Broncos. He enjoyed old cars, canning and gardening. Marty was quiet and reserved but very friendly. He was the only person we knew who put gravy on a salad. He is survived by his children, Steve, Chris, Scott and Kevin; siblings Patricia Skiffington, Betty Wasmundt, Melvin Johnson, Mary Kendell, David Johnson and Ann Park; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Marty was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Marty’s name to Bethel Lutheran, 1009 18th Ave SW., Great Falls, MT, 59404.
