Marthalynne "Marci" Kay Kremer

August 11, 1942 – Dec 3, 2017 Marci Kremer, of Dutton, passed into the hands of the Lord in the loving company of her family at Benefis Hospital, Great Falls on December 3, 2017. Marci is finally at rest. Marci grew up in Dutton, attending Dutton schools until mid-high school before transferring to Great Falls living with family friends. In 1960 she married Armond Cheek and started her initial family life in San Jose, California, later moving back to Montana to be a farm wife on the family farm east of Dutton. They had 3 children before divorcing in 1974. Returning to Dutton she married George Kremer in 1976 and lived there until her passing. Marci owned and operated Wheat Center Canvas in partnership with Betty and Rudy Fuhringer, beginning in 1978. After many many projects, the shop was sold in 1996. In 1999, she also operated the Sun Canyon Lodge restaurant, bar, and guest accommodations, in the ‘Canyon’ west of Augusta in partnership with sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Stella Verbael, later cooking for the lodge restaurant for several seasons. She was also the cook at the Dutton Retirement Center from 1999-2012. Her cooking was legendary for taste, quantity, and variety. She was well known for her warm, accommodating inner persona, at the same time always attempting to hide this trait behind a wall of sternness. She enjoyed her down time at the family cabin in Sun River Canyon, entertaining at the cabin or hosting a deck party at home in Dutton. Marci was a gifted quilter, with an established quilt shop in Dutton for a number of years. She always looked forward to participating in retreats and taking bus trips with her quilting friends. Marci was an active member of the Dutton Methodist Church and longtime member of Ladies Auxiliary, Dutton Legion Post earning state recognition as Montana Auxiliary Member of the Year 2002. Marci was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Mabel Verbael; older sister, Maxine Rubino; and two nephews, Keith and Rick Verbael. She leaves behind her husband, George Kremer of Dutton; daughter Wanda (Keith) Wagner of Lacombe, Alberta; sons Gary Cheek of Dutton and Daryl Cheek of Helena; brother Russ (Stella) Verbael of Great Falls; grandchildren Molly (Jorgen) Siebenga, Jacob (Kerrie) Wagner, Hannah Wagner, D’Rae Cheek and Michael Cheek; great-grandson Devin Cheek;as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children. A celebration of Marci’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Dutton American Legion with burial to follow at Dutton Cemetery.
