Marlene Kay Doig, 75, of Townsend, slipped quietly from this life at the Peace Hospice House in Great Falls on May 6, 2015. At 5 oclock on a beautiful sunny afternoon, which she loved so much, she left her ailing body and lost vision behind. Her room was filled with family and the caring hands and hearts of hospice nurses. All of her family had been at her side during the preceding days. Marlene touched the hearts of all who cared for her in the past year and a half.A memorial service for Marlene will be on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11 a.m., in Townsend at the Methodist Church where she and Dave began their life journey together. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Marlene Kay Hunter was born on March 31, 1940 at the Crowell Maternity Home in Roundup, Montana. She was the first child born to John and Zella (Carter) Hunter. Since her father worked highway construction, Marlene saw much of the big state of Montana during her childhood. She attended many schools and was always a good student. The majority of her high school years were spent in Townsend where she graduated from Broadwater County High School. Lifelong friendships were made there and those bonds exist today.Her high school sweetheart, David L. Doig, became her husband on July 11, 1959another beautiful sunny day. Dave and Marlene enjoyed nearly 56 years together. They started their life in Townsend, but later moved to Dillon, MT where they raised their family. Four children were brought into this life, Bart David, Penny Lynn, Kristi Karolyn and Bradley Lawson. They were their greatest joy.Camping in the great outdoors was the family fun and life. Fishing, hunting, campfires and cooking were the Doig way. They also loved all the sports and activities their children were involved in and were always there. Marlene was a hard working office manager throughout her life. When she turned 65, retiring was not on her mind and she continued to drive to Helena even through tough winter storms to age 70.Dave and Marlenes most adventuresome employment was at Dutch Harbor, Alaska where they both worked for several years. Marlene loved country western music and reading a good book. The past year she could still do both thanks to the talking book program. She bonded with two special furry friends, Bogey and Barley during this time also.Marlene is survived by her husband Dave of Townsend; four children, Bart (Darci) Doig of Dillon, Penny (Chris) Martin of Helena; Kristi (Gordon) McManus of Great Falls, Bradley Doig of Dillon; 6 grandchildren, Kellen and Tony Martin, Tyler, Kolby and Trey Wolf and Hanna Doig Cashell; sister Sherry (Ward) Scoffield of Townsend; brother Randall (Susan) Hunter of Great Falls; sisters-in-law Darlene Doig and Emma Morrison; and many nieces and nephews who will miss her very much.She was preceded in death by her parents John and Zella Hunter, Daves parents Walt and Villa Doig, brother-in-law Ray Doig and sister-in-law Marge Tarabochia.The family suggests memorials to Peace Hospice of Montana, 1101 26th St. So, Great Falls, MT 59405.
