Lyle John Arthur, 87, of Great Falls, a retired lineman and thoroughbred horse trainer, died on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Benefis Hospital of natural causes.A memorial service will be held at a later date and time. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Lyle was born on July 16, 1926 to Robert and Fern Arthur on the family farm near Cando, North Dakota. He was one of 12 children. Lyle served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the United States and Germany during World War II. He married Edith Altenburg on October 26, 1951 in Miles City, MT. Lyle and Edie enjoyed 60 years together until her passing in 2012.Lyle worked the oil field and as a seismographer until he took a position as a lineman with McCone Electric in Circle, MT. He was transferred to Winnett, MT in 1961 and worked there until retiring.After retiring, Lyle decided to give thoroughbred horse training a try. This quickly became a passion for him, and continued to be until poor health forced him to retire.Lyle is survived by his sons, Butch (Phyllis) of Winnett, Keith (Kim) and Dan (Hae Ran) both of Great Falls; brothers Bill (Barb) of Kalispell, Jim (Alice) of Belle Creek, and Larry (Barb) of Helena; sisters Mona of Glendive and Iona of California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eldon, Duane, Clarence, Ernest, Clinton and Gordon; and grandson Bradley.Memorials may be sent to the Lewtana Bible Camp, PO Box 114, Lewistown, MT 59457, or a charity of ones choice.
