Lowell Swede Sorenson, 83, formerly of Great Falls, residing in Minnesota, a retired truck driver and fertilizer plant specialist and Navy veteran, died on Thursday, August 23, 2012 of natural causes in Fargo, North Dakota.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel.There will be a potluck following the service at Schnider Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Lowell Swede Sorenson was born on November 17, 1928, in Wheaton, Minnesota. Swede was the son of Adolph and Esther Sorenson. He moved with his family to Rose Glenn, North Dakota, where he grew up and attended school. Swede served in the United States Navy on a destroyer tender, which patrolled the Atlantic Ocean. Later, Swede lived in Great Falls and worked as a Euclid driver for Zook Construction.After working construction, he was a driver and dispatcher for the Black & White Cab Company for many years.He was then employed as a maintenance engineer for the Ponderosa Inn for several years.In 1974, Swede moved to Ada, Minnesota where he embarked in a new career as a Fertilizer Plant Specialist. He remained with Agsco until his retirement and maintained lasting friendships with co-workers, farmers, community members and his manager, Cordy Wilson. Swede enjoyed the company of people and had a deep affection for his dog, Fritz. His passions included attending auctions and restoring antiques, but his greatest interest was in coins. Swede was a numismatist and had collected coins since childhood. In addition, he enjoyed tinkering and the challenge of fixing things which others could not. Swede is survived by four sons, Jerry Sorenson, Phoenix, AZ, Monte (Sue)Sorenson and Myron Sorenson, both of Great Falls and Scott (Barbara) Sorenson of Whitefish; his step-daughter, Maria Renville, of Great Falls; their mother, Janice Renville, of Great Falls; one brother, Delmar D.A. (Fay) Sorenson of Alabama; one sister, Dorothy Freeman of California; eight grandchildren, Jason, Brooke, Alicia, Brandon, Corey, Myron Jr., Mandy and Janel; along with ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Esther Sorenson; his son, Gary Sorenson; his daughter, Jamie Sorenson; and sisters Jean and Joyce.
