Louis Albert Freeman, 93, of Great Falls, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018. A memorial service will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Christian Church. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home. Louis was born on November 10, 1924 on a ranch outside of Bozeman to James and Lola (Carver) Freeman. He graduated from high school and worked at the Grain Inspection Laboratory at Montana State University. During his 16 years at the laboratory he also attended classes. In 1958, the family moved to Great Falls where he began working in the quality control lab at Montana Flour Mills. He continued to work in the same lab under 4 different companies until retirement as head of the lab for Cereal Food Processors. He was very involved with the Montana Wheat Council for many years and also the Cereal Chemist’s Association. He was married to Elizabeth Ruth Smith on April 15, 1945. They were together for over 72 years, prior to her passing in August of 2017. They had 1 son and 2 daughters. Louis loved to go traveling and visiting 49 of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and several European countries. After his retirement, they wintered in Arizona for 16 years.He was very active in his local and regional church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gathering huckleberries at Hungry Horse every summer. He is survived by his son James (Sherry) Freeman; daughters Darlene Woxen (Gerald) Goens and Carol (Gene) Householder; six grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Freeman-Cook, Lori (Dominique) de Vangel, Teri St. Pierre, Chris (Kammylynn) Woxen, Joan (Jon) Evans-Bannon, and Joyce Householder; and twelve great-grandchildren, Rachel and Katelyn Freeman-Cook, Nicholas and Isabelle de Vangel, Sean and Cory St. Pierre, Christie and Brandon Woxen, Sierra Hefner, Christin and Cody Evans, Katie Gano, and Kari Bannon. H Louis was preceded in death by his wife; parents; 9 brothers and sisters; and granddaughter Wendy Mignano. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Central Christian Church.
