Lois A. Cornell

June 22, 1924 — September 22, 2015

Lois Ann Cornell, endeared and known to many as Lo, passed away on September 22, 2015. Lois, a longtime Augusta resident and WW II Navy veteran, was born June 22, 1924, the second of four children to Andrew and Ellen Axelsen in Niagara, North Dakota. Loiss childhood memories were carefree having grown up in East Grand Forks where she graduated from high school. After graduation, she served in the US Navy WAVES program in Virginia, 1944 to 1946. Upon returning to North Dakota, Lois met and married her husband, Bruce and together with their baby son, Kevin, ventured to Montana in 1949. Three years later, Scott was born and they have called Augusta home ever since. Lois stated, I think its a wonderful place to live, I cant imagine living any place else. The rest is history. She and Bruce raised not only their two sons, but opened their home to MANY others. Lo was Bruces supporter and partner in the bar and life insurance businesses. Her love for animals brought her much joy! She valued people on their own merit, and was a caring, giving woman to her community. The last year, Lois lived in Great Falls to be closer to her sons and family. She resided at the Grandview, where she enjoyed friends and had a great appreciation for the staff and her caregivers. Lo was loved by many. She always said how blessed she felt by caring friends and family who brought joy to her life. She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Betsy) and Scott (Cann); four grandchildren, Cody (Eve), Joe (Carissa), Kinna (Scott Clark), and Katie (Johnny Strickler); three great grandchildren, Elliott, Ellie Ann, Kobi; and sister-in-law Shirley Axelsen. Lo was preceded in death by her husband; parents Ellen and Andrew Axelsen; her siblings; and her beloved pets. A memorial service will be held at the Augusta Community Church Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Augusta Senior Citizens Center. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. At Lois request please send memorials to the Augusta Community Church or the Augusta Senior Citizen Center both in Augusta, MT 59410.
