Lloyd O. Meland, 85, of Great Falls, an Army veteran and a Vaughn-area farmer for many years, died of natural causes Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Peace Hospice. His funeral will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 10 a.m., with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held in Highland Cemetery in Havre on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 2:30p.m. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Anna Lou Meland of Great Falls; a daughter, Dianne (Ron) Bremer of Fairfield; sons Douglas (Valerie) Meland of Baltic, SD, and Dale (Judy) Meland of Federal Way, WA; and four grandchildren.Lloyd was born April 12, 1926, to Ole and Lida Meland in Cottonwood, Montana, where he was raised and educated. He farmed with his dad and brother on the family homestead until entering the Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the farm and his family. He married Anna Lou Corbett on March 2, 1957 in Great Falls. They moved to Great Falls in 1958 and he worked for the ASCS as a field man around central Montana until retiring in the mid-1970s. In 1970 he bought a farm west of Vaughn and continued farming until 2006, when he and Anna moved back to Great Falls.He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. He was also a member of VFW Post 1087.Lloyd was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and was anticipating the pending birth of his first great-grandchild.Survivors include his wife Anna Lou Meland of Great Falls; a daughter, Dianne (Ron) Bremer of Fairfield; sons Douglas (Valerie) Meland of Baltic, SD and Dale (Judy) Meland of Federal Way, WA; grandchildren Kayla Meland, Jeffrey Meland, Nickolas Bremer and Lexi Bremer; niece and nephew Wanda and Gary Meland and was anticipating the soon arrival of his first great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents Ole and Lida Meland; a brother, Sigurd Meland and a sister, Lillian White.
