Leo "Ted" Meier

Leo T. Meier, 89, passed away on September 17, 2013 after a lingering illness at Peace Hospice.Visitation will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home. A funeral liturgy will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.On January 28, 1924, Leo was born in Rugby, North Dakota to Barbara and Michael Meier and grew up in the Rugby and Devils Lake area.He served in the U. S. Navy as a Water Tender Third Class from 1943 through 1945. He served in eighteen Naval battle campaigns aboard the U. S. S. New Orleans. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad in Devils Lake where he met the love of his life, Margaret. They married on October 5, 1950 in Hillsboro, ND. In 1954, Leo and his family moved to Great Falls, MT where he was employed as a pipefitter for the Anaconda Company until its closure in 1981.In his younger years, Leo enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and later on he spent many hours in his woodshop making gifts for his family. After the grandchildren came along he enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren going to many of their school and athletic events. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic parish and he also belonged to Eagles Lodge.Leo is survived by his wife, Margaret; children Irene Meier, Paul (Carolyn) Meier, Larry (Kathy) Meier, Dan Meier, Dianne Meier, Theresa Meier, and Jeff (Georgianna) Meier all of Great Falls; grandchildren Joe (Valerie) Meier of Perth, Australia, Katie Meier of Augusta, MT, Matt Meier of Denver, CO, Patrick (Desarae) McQueen, Jakob Meier, Lukas Meier, and Sara Meier; and great-grandchildren Jeidyn and Coulter McQueen all of Great Falls.He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and six sisters.Memorials made in Leos name may be given to Peace Hospice of Montana, 1101 26th St. So., Great Falls, MT 59405 or to the donors choice.Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.schniderfuneralhome.com
