Laura Young

Laura Marie (Johnson) Young, 87, of Cascade, passed away June 24, 2014 at Peace Hospice of Great Falls from natural causes. She will be dearly missed and remembered as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 27th at Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Laura was born January 26, 1927 in Moose Lake, Minnesota to Ivar and Elsie (Anderson) Johnson. Laura grew up on the family farm on Sand Lake and attended school in Moose Lake. After high school she attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where she earned a bachelors degree in education. After graduating from college, she and her girlfriends traveled west to snow ski and look for work. While in Great Falls she was offered a teaching position and went to work for the Great Falls "public" Schools. She met her future husband, Robert Babe Young, while both were teaching school. They got married in 1954. She taught 2nd and 6th grade elementary school for 30 years before they retired along the Missouri River south of Cascade. After her husbands death, Laura lived at her home until recent years.In her younger years her favorite studies were history and geography. Laura loved to participate in sports especially snow skiing and ice skating.Later in life she and her husband enjoyed following their grandchildren in school, club activities, and sports. They were also avid fans and supporters of mens and womens athletics at the University of Montana. Lauras greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She took great pleasure in gardening, cooking, and had a keen interest in nature and wildlife. She also had special affection for her golden retrievers and adopted cats.Laura is survived by her sons, James (Carla) Young of Great Falls and Jeff (Peggy) Young of Kalispell; grandchildren Jaimee (Cole) Turley, Nathan (fianc Kari Worum) Young, Lance and Aaron Young; along with cousins, nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Young; daughter Jeanne Noyd; sisters Mildred Lehet, Blanche Wilson, Eldora Sateren, Harriet McClintick; and brother Wallace Johnson.Memorials are suggested to the local Humane Society of Cascade County, PO Box 1774, Great Falls, MT 59403 or Montana Audubon Society, PO Box 595, Helena, MT 59624.
