Laura Emily (Mathews) Brandt

Laura Emily (Mathews) Brandt, 82, of Great Falls, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home. A visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home. Another visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. both at Peace Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Laura was born on April 2, 1935 in Turtle Lake, North Dakota to Perry and Myrtle (Peterson) Mathews. She and her family moved to Montana where she graduated from Simms High School. She was a secretary for many years in various insurance offices. She married Kenneth “Ken” D. Brandt in 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairfield, Montana. They were married for 63 years and together they had five children. Laura was a member of Peace Lutheran LWML for many years and during that time she held the offices of Recording Secretary and Zone President for LWML. She was also a long standing member of Peace Lutheran Church. Her faith and her family were most important to her. She loved knitting and crafts, camping, fishing, and traveling with her family. She was always there to lend a hand at a potluck or a soup supper, whether it was clean up duty, providing a casserole, or a tasty dessert. She will be greatly missed by all. Laura is survived by her husband, Ken; daughters Catherine (Ken) Laufmann, Ruth (Garry) Denning, and Rowan (Laura Cameron) Michelle Brandt; sons David (Teri) Brandt and Laurance Brandt; sisters Doris Hauf, Pat Bliss, Carol Roehm, and Myrtle Kinna; brothers Merlin and Charles Mathews; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry and Myrtle and brothers Perry and Ernie Mathews.
