Kenneth E. Kenny Meyer, 84, of Geyser, a retired rancher, postal carrier, and U.S. Army and Merchant Marine veteran, died on Thursday, August 2, 2012, of natural causes at a local hospital.A vigil will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Great Falls.A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Geyser.Burial will follow at the Geyser Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Kenneth E. Kenny Meyer was born on January 15, 1928 in Great Falls to Leonard Herman and Rose Catherine (Decker) Meyer.He was raised on the family ranch 7 miles north of Geyser. He attended elementary school at the Brown Creek School and graduated from high school at Geyser.At the age of 17, he joined the Army and served until he was discharged with a hardship of an ailing father on the ranch.He was drafted during the Korean War into the Merchant Marines where he was in charge of grave registration and cooking.Kenny married Margaret McAllister on October 30, 1951 at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Geyser.She passed away on September 12, 1964.He then married Maisie Trecker on December 30, 1965 in Buchanan, North Dakota.He was the president of the Geyser Senior Center, and he had been a member and chairman of the Geyser School Board, served on the Selective Service Board and the Judith Basin County Weed Board.He was a member of the Stockgrowers Association, Toastmasters, NFO, Knights of Columbus Master of 4th Degree, and a member of the St. Cyrils Holy Name Society and Parish Council and was a religious education instructor.He enjoyed fishing, travel, dancing, hunting, Cribbage and other card games.He was well known for being the Jam making man, an excellent electrician, carpenter, plumber, roofer, stuntman, and assistant beekeeper, with the title of Project Inspector.Kenny is survived by his wife, Maisie C. Meyer of Geyser; his sons, Leonard Meyer of Billings and Lee Meyer of Great Falls; his daughters, Lynn Thompson of Geyser, Lois Rawlings of San Ramon, CA, LouAnn Stokes of Lathrop, CA, Laura Larson of Billings and Loretta Lowe of Billings; a brother Dewaine Meyer of Kennewick, WA; sisters Evelyn Cady of Great Falls and Germaine Dunbar of Billings, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Rose Meyer; his first wife, Margie McAllister Meyer; a son Larry Meyer; Uncle Pete Decker; sisters Delores Meyer, Ann Lotts, Louella Stockton, Virginia Voytoski and Ethyl Locke; and brothers Eugene, Melvin and Bob Meyer.Memorials in Kennys name may be made to the Geyser/Raynesford Quick Response Unit, the Geyser/Raynesford Senior Center, both in Geyser, Montana or a memorial of your choice.Condolences for the family may be left at www.schniderfuneralhome.com.
