Karen Marie Short, 74, of Great Falls, a retired homemaker, died Monday, July 8, 2013 of natural causes at Peace Hospice.A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Karen was born deaf and attended the Montana Deaf and Blind School for 12 years. She was a loving sister and aunt. She was a retired homemaker who taught her entire family sign language so that they could communicate with one another.She loved her family and constant companion, Angel, her little Pomeranian dog who preceded her in death the day she entered the hospital in March of 2013. She enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her mother and was a devoted lifetime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She worked on ceramics and word search puzzles.Karen is survived by her sister, Judith Hess of Great Falls; nephew, Lester Oswald III; nieces Jeri Dickson and Lori (Jim) Evans both of Great Falls; seven great nephews and one great niece, Crissy Crocker, Lucas and Logan Oswald, Wyatt Topness, Jorge Evans, Barney Evans, and Nicholas Evans;and great-great nephew Caleb Crocker of Las Vegas, NV.She was preceded in death by her mother Marie Amiotte Short July 8, 2011 and father Bernard A. Short August 1, 1987.
