Joyce Austin

Longtime Great Falls resident, Joyce Jeanette Hastings Austin passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the age of 89.At her request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.She was born in Great Falls on January 30, 1925, to Delbert and Jean Hastings. She was one of four in her graduating class in Cascade, Montana. Joyce began her career working at the Great Falls Gas Company. She met Stan Austin on a blind date and they were married in 1947. Together Joyce and Stan raised three children, Wayne, Paul, and Diana. Stan opened a meat cutting business and Joyce helped him with the books and wrapping the meat for customers. Joyce worked at the Montana State Grain Lab for many years until she retired at the age of 58.Joyce loved to dance, and was a great addition to any party. After she retired, she enjoyed trips to Washington State to spend time with her daughter Diana, and she was active in the lives of her granddaughters who lived in Great Falls, Alicia, Angela, and Amy. Joyce was hard-working, loyal, and fun-loving. She will be greatly missed.She is survived by her sons Wayne (Erin) Austin of Walnut Creek, CA and Paul (Jeanette) Austin of Great Falls; daughter Diana Austin of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren Alicia, Angela, Amy, Jona, and Scott.Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Stan; grandson Jarred Austin; her sister Shirley (Hastings) Hall; and her brothers Robert and Warren Hastings.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.
