Josef Martel, 88, of Vaughn, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Monday, March 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Sun River Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Josef was born on December 10, 1929 in Germany to Wendlin and Kathrina (Huhn) Martel. He went to work in road construction and retired. After he retired from road construction, he went to work for Wilbur Ellis as a warehouseman. He married Mary E. Lewis on December 29, 1969 in Cody, Wyoming. They were together for 48 years until her passing on October 15, 2017. Together they had five children. Josef would always go out to the woods and find the biggest tree he could and use it to bring home his “grandpa logs.” He enjoyed gardening and gave away everything he grew to whoever needed or wanted it. His favorite team of all time was the Denver Broncos. He loved the outdoors and was a very hard worker his whole life. He is survived by his children, Tim Hawthorne, Terry Martel, Tana Williams, and Theresa Rambo; brother Willey Martel; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Josef was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Martel; son Josef Franz Martel; parents; one brother; and one sister.
