John W. Sechena

May 24, 1925- August 14, 2018, John Walter Sechena passed away August 14, 2018. At John's request, no services will be held. He donated his body to Montana State University Medical. Ashes will be interred at a later date at Fort Harrison Veterans Cemetery in Helena. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, June Sechena; sons Dr John (Dr Ruth), Michael, and Bob (Dawn) Sechena; daughter Kathy (Steve) Smestad; and 7 grandchildren Nick Sechena, Brandan (Melissa) and Cody Smestad, Dakota, Madisen, Shelby, and Max Sechena. John was born May 24, 1925 in Great Falls, MT to Eva and Samual Sechena.He was the youngest of nine children. He and his family lived on the west side and were members of St Joseph's Parish. He graduated from Great Falls High School (1942), then served (1943-1945) in the US Navy (South Pacific) during WWII. Upon returning to Great Falls, he married (1948) and worked for the Great Northern/ Burlington Northern until he retired. John was a selfless and kind man who devoted his whole life to the betterment of his children and grandchildren. Many feet were supported by his broad shoulders. Memorials may be made to High School Hockey and Baseball teams.
