John Vincent Gerhart, 62, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Benefis Peace Hospice in Great Falls following a battle with cancer.John leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Beth (Nagle) Gerhart; daughter Rachel and her husband James Gallagher; dog Otis; as well as many friends and loved ones. He is survived by his parents, Bud and Helen Gerhart of Monarch; sister Robin (Jerry) Boland; brother Shane (Suzanne) Gerhart and their respective families.Born and raised in Belt, Montana, John graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He became an engineer for The Boeing Company and was able to travel across the western states. He eventually found his way back to Belt where he built a home and raised his daughter, Rachel. He ran a successful art production company and eventually transitioned into construction and dirt work.John had a mechanical mind in the greatest sense. He had passion for building all things. From cutting the perfect road grade in his subdivisions, to finessing the handle bars of his custom built choppers, to the construction of his and Beths dream home. His legacy is left in all the things he created and the lives he touched. He was an intoxicatingly funny man to be around and a friend you could count on to always do you right. He will be greatly missed.A vigil service will be Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Marks Catholic Church in Belt with a luncheon to follow. Beth and Rachel welcome family and friends to join in continuing the celebration of Johns life at the Harvest Moon Saloon following the luncheon.Memorials are suggested to the Belt Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department; Peace Hospice; or a charity of the donors choice.
