Jerry D. Aakre, 69, a Marine Corps veteran, died of natural causes January 27, 2020, in the comfort of his own home. He will be remembered as a master story teller who could always get a laugh despite having told the story several times before. He was one heck of a hunter and fisherman, and for many years maintained a plentiful garden. Jerry enjoyed watching WWE with his grandson, Josh, and was rarely skunked at cribbage, regardless of his opponent. He took great pride in his family, and was thrilled to be a great-grandpa. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Alice Aakre; daughter, Jenifer Cartwright; three sons, Jesse Aakre, Joesph Aakre, and Roy Aakre; sister, Kathy Ruddy of Killeen, TX; brothers, Sandy Aakre of Vermillion, SD and Kerry Aakre of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Josh Stanley, Samantha Cartwright, Ayla Cartwright, and Rose Aakre; and one great-grandchild, Clyde Lewis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Aakre and nephew, Nelson W. Aakre.
