Janet Marie (Overland) Kempf

Janet Marie (Overland) Kempf of Great Falls passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the age of 78.

Janet was born on March 11, 1945, in Glasgow to Elling and Evelyn (Nelson) Overland. Janet met Bruce in Great Falls at the Elbow Room in Tommy’s 2D Lounge where he was bartending part time on a Sunday night. They were married on Easter Sunday March 29, 1970, in Las Vegas, NV in the Little Chapel Around the Corner. They were married for 52 years and people called them a “cute couple.”

She went to Dahl’s Beauty College and received her cosmetology license. Her chief contractor and husband, Bruce, assisted in the construction of “The Root Cellar,” her hair style salon in the basement of her house with her best friend, Sandy Cecrle. She styled hair for over 40 years before she retired due to health issues.

Janet was a member of Peace Lutheran Church before transferring her membership to Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed getting together with the Cecrles, going out to dinner with friends and family, traveling to visit family in Spokane and Denver, and semi-annual trips to Las Vegas. She was also a member of LWML and Thrivent.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce; stepson, Troy Kempf; stepdaughter, Laurie Mann; and beloved grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will take her ashes to Donnely, Idaho for burial later this summer.
