James Moore

James Francis Moore, 84, of Great Falls, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home.No services are planned upon his request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.James was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee August 3, 1933. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in England during the Korean conflict. After leaving the service, James was training to be a pilot under the G.I. Bill. In 1957, he decided to become a Journeyman Ironworker in South Carolina. In 1958, he came to Montana and became a member of Local 732 Ironworkers.It was in Montana that he met the love of his life, Mary. They were married June 28, 1959 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, Minnesota.James retired from ironwork in 1994 due to heart issues. He survived two open heart surgeries, one at the age of 48 and the other at the age of 70. After his retirement, he started a small business rototilling gardens and mowing fields in Great Falls. He took great pride in his old Allis-Chalmers tractor.He enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He traveled with his wife, Mary all over the US and Europe. Some of the best memories the family has is camping with him. He was always there to support his grandchildren with their endeavors. He looked forward to visits with his sister, Alma and her husband, Bill. He did his best to be the greatest husband, father, grandfather, and brother he could be.James leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Mary Moore; daughters Kathy (Jerry) Carpenter and Jamie (Dan) Marreel both of Great Falls; sons David Moore of Missoula, and Bruce (Shawna) Moore of Great Falls; grandchildren Matt, Colton, Jessie, and Sarah; sister Alma (Bill) Noah and their daughter, Karen (Bill) Hudson of Knoxville, TN.He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law Christine Moore.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Hospice and the American Heart Association of Great Falls.A celebration of James life will be held at a later date.
