James Howard Bauer was born May 3, 1955, in Havre Montana to George and Louise Bauer where he went to school. He won a local spelling bee and almost made it to the national finals. He wanted to be a writer and went to the University of Chicago for a degree in consensual creative writing. He went on to get a master’s degree in philosophy of science where he was at the top of class.
He wrote a book under the pen name W.C. Ledbetter called “Mine Warp Era” which was somewhat autobiographical. He was constantly writing science fiction stories and submitting them for publications. He was friends with Timothy Leary who referenced his letters in a few of his stories.
He married Trisha Andress in 2003, and they were married for nine years.
James passed away on February 10, 2025.
He is survived by his brothers, John (MaryAnn) Bauer, Joe (Elaina) Bauer, Jerome Bauer, Dan Bauer and Dave (Karen) Bauer.
