James Allen Balzer, 81, passed December 9th after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at First Congregational United Church of Christ. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Jim was born March 13, 1935 to George and Molly (Kreb) Balzer in Ballantine, MT. He grew up in Worden, served in the United States Army (1953-1955) and later moved to Great Falls. Following the army, Jim began a long business career including over 50 years in the credit union movement.Jim married Dorene Burke (Thompson) in 1956. They divorced in 1980. From this union, there were four daughters, thusly naming his favorite boat, 4 Queens and the Joker.In 1990, Jim married Elaine Marian Fischer (Kading) and added two step-children to his family. Jim and Elaine lived life to the fullest, checking off many bucket list items. Jim loved camping, gardening, wood working and making Kraut Biroks for his brood!Jim is survived by his soul mate, Elaine; brother Dan; four daughters and their spouses, Vickie (Bob) Williamson, Tammy (Paul) LaVigne, Lori Smith (Butch), and Jackie (Kreg) Jones; step-children Jolaine (Jeff) Plant and Sean (Terrie) Kading; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.Jim was preceded in death by grandson Tyson Smith; sister Betty Compton; brother Richard; parents Molly and George; and father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Myrtle Fischer.Jim was a long-time member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, serving on many committees and boards.
